Hero Hemmingsley (Glasgow, 1994) is a filmmaker and musician with a bicultural background, spanning Amsterdam and Glasgow.
In 2017, he graduated with honors as a screenwriter and director from the Utrecht School of the Arts, where he gained attention with films such as Brocante and his graduation film Lone Wolf: a film about a terror attack told from the perspective of both perpetrator and victim, shot in one take. During his third year, he interned at VICE Benelux as a junior director.
After graduating, Hero took a break from his career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he rediscovered his passion for filmmaking. He worked as an editor and cameraman at the production company Film Nomads before continuing as a freelancer. He has worked for major brands such as Heineken, Albert Heijn, Hema, Lipton Ice Tea, Thuisbezorgd, GVB, Veilig Verkeer Nederland, Natuur & Milieu, and Cortina, collaborating with various established advertising agencies.
Hero has recently completed his documentary A Big Adventure, an intimate and poetic film where he captures the final journey he embarks on with his father, Winston, following his father’s terminal cancer diagnosis. The film, commissioned by Dutch broadcaster NPO 3 and created as part of the 3Lab talent development program, will be going around the festival circuit over the next two years. In 2025, Hero will focus on his music career, a new documentary, commercial work, and his first feature film.
